COMO LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Leadership and Development for Ages 10-18
The COMO Leadership Program (CLP) is a youth advocacy and leadership program for students entering sixth grade to senior year of high school. the COMO Leadership Program is made up of two sessions, a summer program for those entering 8-11th grade and a a school year program focused on helping teens become strong leaders in their communities.
Summer CLP: 4-Week Program
Open to anyone entering 8th-11th grade.
The Summer COMO Leader program (CLP) is a 4-week program that is designed to teach the next generation of potential camp counselors the ins and outs of working at the COMO. The first two weeks of the program consist of various classroom and onsite training, workshops, lessons, teambuilding, and fun with the intention to give knowledge about how to work at a summer camp. The second two weeks, each CLP will be placed in an actual camp group to shadow a counselor and practice what they have learned.
The first two weeks of the program will take place June 23-27 and June 30-July 3. All CLP’s MUST be present these weeks from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There are four options for the second 2 weeks of the program for CLP’s to choose from. CLP’s are able to participate in more than one session if they choose, for a reduced cost once completing the initial 4-week program. CLP’s will attend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during their placement weeks.
Session 1- Camp weeks 2+3
Session 2- Camp weeks 4+5
Session 3- Camp weeks 6+7
Session 4- Camp weeks 8+9

Additional week beyond 4-weeks cost: $75
School Year CLP: September-June
Middle School Group entering 6th-8th grade
High School Group entering 9th-12th grade
The school year CLP is to provide knowledge, training, and experiences to teens so that they become strong leaders in their communities, are inspired to help others, and gain insight into the workforce.

Time & Commitment
Being part of the COMO Leaders Program is a commitment. Leaders are expected to attend weekly meetings and activities as well as volunteer in their community. A core part of the program is that leaders take an active role in planning and facilitating COMO activities. The more time, effort, and energy a leader puts into their community, the more they’ll receive back.
Meeting times:
Middle School Leaders: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
High School Leaders: 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Volunteer opportunities and other events times vary but will be mentioned in an ample amount of time.
Leaders will plan a minimum of two community events during the year, which will be used as fundraisers for the COMO community.

Service Highlight: Annual Stonington Village Fair
Stonington Village Fair is a regional time-honored tradition drawing thousands annually. The first Village Fair was held on August 14th, 1952 to commemorate the 1814 Battle of Stonington. This popular community event brings together local and tourist alike, for a fun-filled day of games, music, food, and crafts. Leaders are key to helping make the Stonington Village Fair a success! Leaders help with set up/breakdown and fair stations including children’s games & prizes, STEAM & pottery tents, bake sale tent, and more! Village Fair 2024 will be on August 3.

















Service Highlight: Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center
Leaders helped out three years in a row at the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, food bank and senior center, by packing Thanksgiving meal boxes for neighbors who are facing food insecurity during the holiday season.
Service Highlight: Virtual Read-Alouds
Leaders visited the COMO Kids and Preschool classrooms for storytime, virtually! Take a look at their awesome read-aloud videos below. Despite the struggles 2020 and the COVID pandemic brought, COMO Leaders continued to stay actively engaged and dedicated to making an impact in the community. They found creative ways to remain connected as a means to collaborate and brainstorm COVID-friendly community service initiatives. COMO Preschoolers and COMO Kids LOVED listening to and watching the Leaders read-aloud videos!
